Who We Are
Why?
Though they are so different than they once were, our loved ones are still very much themselves. For those living with Alzheimer's Disease and other forms of dementia, the common narrative is rather grim. It is a label synonymous with loss and anticipatory grief. Signature characteristics and personality traits trademarked with their identity slowly (sometimes rapidly) erode as the disease progresses and robs the person and their loved ones of moving forward with life as they once knew it. From the earliest signs of forgetfulness and confusion, a compounded grieving process begins for all involved.
The organizers of this project are set out to change that narrative and the image associated with dementia. Indeed, like so many other diagnoses, Alzheimer's and dementia do inevitably affect one's future. However, it is powerless over their past. This disease cannot rob anyone of their legacy. Their accomplishments, contributions, & relationships are safeguarded indefinitely.

How?
This series of photographs and interviews intends to bring into focus a person's lasting impact. By capturing our subjects in the context of what they have given, rather than what they have lost, we hope to showcase the joy that is still to be found, despite the diagnosis. We intend to change the image of dementia and de-stigmatize the frail, shell-like image that is so often envisioned with the word. When you view these photographs, you will not see a diagnosis nor will you see loss. Instead, despite it all, you will see for each of our participants, their legacy remains.
